Google Ads for Emergency Drain Calls
SEO is a long game. Google Ads is the switch you flip when you want the phone to ring this week. For drain work that's powerful, because a backed-up main line is a right-now emergency — the customer will call whoever shows up first. But ads are also the fastest way to burn money if you run them wrong. Here's how to catch the emergency caller without lighting your budget on fire.
Match the campaign to the intent
The biggest mistake is dumping every keyword into one campaign. Different searches mean different buyers and different budgets. Split them:
- Emergency search — "clogged drain near me," "sewer backup," "main line clog," "toilet backing up," "drain cleaning company." These are gold. Highest intent, fastest to close.
- Hydro jetting — "hydro jetting near me," "sewer jetting," "grease line cleaning." Higher ticket, slightly longer consideration.
- Commercial — "commercial drain cleaning," "restaurant drain cleaning," "property management drain cleaning." Fewer searches, much larger lifetime value.
Separate campaigns let you set the right budget and message for each instead of letting cheap clicks eat your emergency budget.
Write ads that match the panic
An emergency searcher wants speed and reassurance, fast. Lead with it:
- "Drain Backed Up? Same-Day Drain Cleaning. Camera Inspection Available. Call Now."
- "Recurring Clogs? Hydro Jetting Clears Grease, Sludge & Scale. Camera-Verified."
- "Prevent Costly Drain Backups. Scheduled Jetting for Restaurants & Properties."
Put your phone number and "24/7" or "Same-day" right in the ad. Many emergency callers tap to call without ever visiting the site.
Use the right ad extensions
- Call extensions / call-only ads — for mobile emergency searches, the goal is a phone call, not a click.
- Location extensions — show you're local.
- Sitelinks — Hydro Jetting, Camera Inspection, Emergency Service, Reviews.
- Callout extensions — "Licensed & Insured," "Upfront Pricing," "No Dig When Possible."
Send clicks to the matching page — not the homepage
If your ad says "hydro jetting," send the click to your /hydro-jetting/
page, not your homepage. The page should repeat the promise from the ad, show proof, and
put "Call now" above the fold. Mismatched landing pages waste clicks you paid for.
Stop the budget leaks
This is where most drain companies lose money:
- Negative keywords. Block "how to," "DIY," "Drano," "salary," "jobs," and "rental." You don't want to pay for someone trying to fix it themselves.
- Geo-targeting. Only show ads in your real service radius. Tighten it if you're paying for calls you won't drive to.
- Ad scheduling. If you only answer 24/7 for emergencies, run the emergency campaign around the clock but pull commercial ads to business hours.
- Exact and phrase match. Broad match invites junk clicks early on. Start tight, expand once you see what converts.
Track calls, not clicks
Clicks don't pay you — booked jobs do. Turn on call tracking and conversion tracking so you know which campaigns and keywords actually produce calls. Then move budget toward the ones that book work and cut the ones that don't. Within a few weeks you'll know your cost per call and cost per booked job, and you can scale with confidence.
The short version
Split campaigns by intent, write ads that promise speed and proof, send every click to a matching page, block the freeloader searches with negatives, and measure calls instead of clicks. Run that way and Google Ads becomes a predictable tap for emergency drain work — on the days you want more of it.
