The Plan · Get the Call · Step 14 of 30

Run Google Ads by Intent

SEO is the long game; Google Ads is the switch you flip when you want the phone ringing this week. A backed-up main line is a right-now emergency — the customer calls whoever shows up first. Done right, ads are a predictable tap for high-value jobs. Done wrong, they burn cash fast. Here's the right way, with examples.

Split campaigns by intent

Never dump every keyword into one campaign. Different searches = different buyers = different budgets.

Example structure

Emergency: "clogged drain near me," "sewer backup," "main line clog," "toilet backing up"
Hydro jetting: "hydro jetting near me," "sewer jetting," "grease line cleaning"
Commercial: "restaurant drain cleaning," "property management drain cleaning"

Write ads that match the panic

Example emergency ad

Headline: Drain Backed Up? Same-Day Service
Headline 2: Camera Inspection Available · Call Now
Description: Local, licensed & insured. Clear arrival window, upfront pricing. We find the cause, not just clear the clog. Call 24/7.

Example jetting ad

Headline: Recurring Clogs? Hydro Jetting
Headline 2: Clears Grease, Sludge & Scale
Description: Camera-verified results that last. See exactly what we cleared. Serving [City] & nearby. Book your inspection today.

Block the budget leaks with negatives

Example negative keywords

-how to   -diy   -drano   -jobs   -salary   -rental   -parts   -free

These stop you paying for someone trying to fix it themselves or looking for a job.

Send clicks to the matching page

If the ad says "hydro jetting," send the click to your /hydro-jetting/ page — not the homepage — with "Call now" above the fold. Add call extensions so mobile emergency searchers can tap to call without visiting the site at all.

Measure calls, not clicks

Turn on call tracking and conversion tracking. Within a few weeks you'll know your cost per booked job — then move budget to the campaigns that book work and cut the rest.

Real example from the field

AJ Drain runs a dedicated /hydro-jetting page — exactly where a "hydro jetting near me" ad should land. The ad's promise, the page's headline, and the call button all line up, so the click you paid for doesn't get lost on a generic homepage.

Do this: start with one tight emergency campaign, exact/phrase match, a solid negatives list, and call tracking on. Scale only what books jobs.
